Whenever possible, stop purchasing and taking pre-packaged food to uni/work, and opt for food in reusable containers instead.

Great to see your progress - have you been able to keep the habit up?

Evelyn Franes | 10/02/2016 - 18:57

Hi David, I have! I've been meal planning at home so that I don't feel the need to purchase pre-packaged food throughout the day, I highly recommend it!

How's your Step going? I find I make better lunches if I can plan ahead - and it saves money. But then I forget. Would be great to know if you've been able to make this work.

I would like to take 'one less plastic bag' challenge in order to reduce the plastic waste on planet.

Compost not waste!

Compost all food waste possible! Having the two bins available on campus - waste & recycling - is helpful, but the food scraps (fruit & vegetables) just have to go to landfill! Bring them home to the compost bin in the garden, to help in growing more healthy food!

Promote vegetarian cooking

Kofi Annan has said one of the simplest and effective ways to reduce carbon emissions and reduce our ecological footprint is by not eating red meat. In our house this is a tricky issue. I am doing my bit. My focus is expanding my repertoire of tasty vegetarian dishes ... tonight it's mushroom and spinach (from the garden) risotto :-))

The vegetarian cooking in our house is going quite well for two out of three of us (the 10 yr old is a work-in-progress). Tonight's menu is Indian vegetarian featuring home grown silverbeet.

I do give a crap

I am determined to use toilet paper that is more than just comfortable. For the next 5 weeks (and hopefully forever after) I will use WHO GIVES A CRAP toilet paper. This toilet paper is not only made with environmentally friendly materials, it also contributes to a more just and healthy society as WHO GIVES A CRAP donates 50% of their profits to help build toilets for those in need.

No more Plastic

Let it be recycling, planting trees I will ensure that I contribute more to conserve, less to landfill. I will strive to ensure that there will be enough resources for evergrowing new generations. I have been given the privilege to consume without any struggle. The future generation should also be given the same opportunity.
