SDG 14: Sustainable oceans

It's day twenty of Vegtember, and I have decide to stop eating meat this month, and hopefully be able continue into the future as a result of the impact agriculture has had on our environment and its contribution to global warming. The way humans are currently eating is not sustainable for our planet and increasing population.

Nice Step! How do you plan to adjust your diet - I have tried to reduce my meat consumption and I actually had to learn to cook a lot better...

Ruby McMinn | 10/04/2016 - 22:10

Eating a pescetarian diet for a couple of weeks helped me transition first, and as a meat lover it was very hard at first but having two vegetarian room mates really helped me stay on track and once you learn some vegetarian recipes you realise how much more colourful and flavoursome they are than meat based dishes!

Be a conscious consumer

Be conscious of what you're eating, where your food comes from and how it's impacting the environment.

David Robertson | 09/20/2016 - 10:00

I find this can be really tricky to adhere to - have you been able to find out much about your food's history? It can be very complex...

Georgina Knight | 09/23/2016 - 16:51

It can be really tricky! You need to factor in shipping and travel contributions, especially for internationally imported foods! But shopping local and organic always helps, not only helps the environment but the community too!

nude food challenge

Whenever possible, stop purchasing and taking pre-packaged food to uni/work, and opt for food in reusable containers instead.

David Robertson | 09/20/2016 - 10:07

Great to see your progress - have you been able to keep the habit up?

Evelyn Franes | 10/02/2016 - 18:57

Hi David, I have! I've been meal planning at home so that I don't feel the need to purchase pre-packaged food throughout the day, I highly recommend it!

No Plastic bags or bottles

Try as I might, I can't believe I still take plastic bottles at functions or plastic bags at shopping. Time to stop on the plastic!

No more Plastic

Let it be recycling, planting trees I will ensure that I contribute more to conserve, less to landfill. I will strive to ensure that there will be enough resources for evergrowing new generations. I have been given the privilege to consume without any struggle. The future generation should also be given the same opportunity.

Stop purchasing plastic water bottles

Start and continue using a reusable bottle instead of having excess plastic bottles.

Morgan Stevens | 10/10/2016 - 15:53

Last week I misplaced my beloved drink bottle. Instead of buying multiple plastic bottles until I could find it, I went and purchased another re-useable bottle. Now that I've found my drink bottle I have two re-useable bottles to use just in case I ever loose my bottle again I've got another one on hand and less likely to buy a plastic bottle.
