I want to reduce my plastic waste by half. I think for this to work I need to first find the 'low hanging fruit'. Some items such a hummus, frozen berries and tofu which might be available somewhere in non-plastic containers would be simply outside my budget. Supplying my own containers for take away, remembering to bring my bags for grocery shopping, purchasing reasonably priced options packaged in class and tin are more realistic targets.

Plastic free shop at Terra Madre in Northcote. Managed to buy brown and white rice, buckwheat and oats. These are usually packaged in plastic at Coles and Aldi. I also noticed butter packaged in glass (this was a bit out of my price range) which I have not noticed anywhere else. I also opted to buy an unpackaged bar of soap. Small steps but they add up.
